Elios and Eolo, sun and wind, gave wonderful conditions for an unforgettable edition of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week, reborn event – under the Rolex crown – thanks to the synergies between Yacht Club Italiano, Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia, Circolo Canottieri and Yacht Club Capri. The program was opened from the historic Tre Golfi race and ended in Capri on Saturday, May 13, after the regattas of the Campionato Nazionale del Tirreno, the Farr 40 Regatta and the Mylius Cup.
The Bruce Farr design Farr 40 started to race on Wednesday 10, the others Classes on the following day, dominated by a strong wind with gusts exceeding 25 knots. On Friday, we begin to outline more concrete assumptions about the winners of the Farr 40, with a family struggle between Alberto Rossi at the helm of Enfat Terrible and his daughter Claudia at the helm of Pazza Idea. Among the Mylius yachts, in the coastal race test Aldo Parisotto’ Oscar 3 wins ahead Vincenzo Addessi’s Fra Diavolo (Y.C Gaeta) with Paolo Scutellaro as tactician.
However, after the first four regattas of the Campionato Nazionale del Tirreno, it is still all to be decided, especially among the big boats in the ORC-A Class, while in the ORC-B Group the day’s victory confirms the first place in the provisional ranking for Peppe Fornich’ Sagola Biotrading. Le Coq Hardì of Maurizio and Gianpaolo Pavesi (CRV Italia) and Vahinè 7 (YC Capri Marina di Capri) are the leaders of the provisional classification.
In the evening, the Rolex Owners Gala Dinner – the most exclusive event of the week – takes place in the wonderful Quisisana Garden.
Saturday, last race day: Valter Pizzoli’s Ange Transparent II (YCMonaco) wins the Campionato Nazionale del Tirreno ORC-A and the Rolex Capri Sailing Week Trophy, assigned to the team that scored the best placements between all the races of the Week. Enfant Terrible is first in the Farr 40 Class, while Oscar 3 wins the Mylius Cup.
On Saturday night, all crews celebrated dancing until late at night at the famous “Anema and core” Tavern by Guido Lembo; an unforgettable evening at the end of a week that will be repeated next year with the edition already scheduled from 11 to 19 May 2018.
