Rolex Capri Sailing Week 2017
Report of the regattas
Elios and Eolo, sun and wind, have given wonderful conditions for an unforgettable edition of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week, an event reborn, under the crown of Rolex, thanks to the synergies between Circolo del Remo e della Vela Italia, Circolo Canottieri Aniene and Yacht Club Capri. The program was opened by the historic Regata dei Tre Golfi and ended in Capri on May 13th, after the regulation of the Campionato Nazionale del Tirreno, the Farr 40 Regatta and the Mylius Cup. A total of 108 registered boats, big names in international sailing and one of the most beautiful gulfs in the world at theater prices for this sail show.
The Farr 40, the 40-foot monotype boats designed by Bruce Farr, began racing on Wednesday 10, the others the following day, dominated by a strong wind with gusts of over 25 knots. The Farr 40 and the competitors of the National Tyrrhenian Championship come out for the first tests, while the Mylius remain at the dock. A choice of some crews that finds the solidarity of the others who decide not to race. Mylius is forgiven for his absence at sea by offering a party at the Hotel La Palma. Friday we begin to outline more concrete hypotheses to imagine the winners among the Farr 40 with a family fight between Alberto Rossi at the helm of Enfant Terrible and his daughter Claudia at the bar of Pazza Idea. Among the Mylius, during the day's coastal trial, Oscar 3 by the shipowner Aldo Parisotto wins, finishing just a few meters ahead of Fra Diavolo (Y.C Gaeta) by Vincenzo Addessi with Paolo Scutellaro on tactics. Everything still to be decided, instead, after 4 total tests of the Campionato Nazionale del Tirreno, especially among the big boats in the ORC-A class, while in the ORC-B grouping, that of the small boats, the victory of the day confirms the first place in the provisional ranking for Sagola Biotrading by Peppe Fornich. In the IRC grouping, he won among the great Le Coq Hardì of Maurizio Pavesi (CRV Italia), who overtook the leaders of the provisional classification Vahinè 7 (YC Capri Marina di Capri), finishing second, but firmly in charge of the general ranking. In the evening, the most exclusive event of the whole week: the Rolex Owners Gala Dinner reserved for shipowners and a selected list of guests in the garden of the Hotel Quisisana.
Saturday, last day of racing. After five tests to win the title of National Champion of the Campionato Nazionale del Tirreno in the ORC-A grouping, of the most graded boats, was Ange Trasparent II (Y.C.Monaco) of Valter Pizzoli, with the Neapolitan tailer Lars Borkstrom on board. The final award ceremony took place in the legendary Piazzetta of Capri where Ange Trasparent also received the Rolex Capri Sailing Week Trophy from Rolex CEO Gian Riccardo Marini, awarded to the team that made the best placings of all the trials of the week, and a model watch. Submariner. The Swan 45 of the Y.C. Monaco, true star of this Rolex Capri Sailing Week, has surpassed by 13 points in the standings Cippa Lippa Rossa, (YC Punta Ala) of the shipowner Paolo Guido Gamucci and of 24 the Neapolitans of Le Coq Hardì (CRV Italia) owned by Maurizio Pavesi.
