Rolex Capri Sailing Week 2018

Naples, May 13th 2018
Line honor for the Alex Schaerer Caol Ila R at the 64th Regata dei Tre Golfi, after racing for 18 hours, 49′ 24”. The English Maxi 72 wins both the Gustavo d’Andrea Cup, for the first in real time, and the Mariano Verusio Cup, awarded to the first overall IRC ranking. In second place the crew of Pendragon VI (USA) and to the third the Italian Frers 64 Anywave Safilens ITA.
Four to five knots of wind accompanied the sailors after the midnight departure, allowing the fastest to round the island of Ponza already at nine o’clock in the morning. Caol Ila R dominated the entire race and, thanks to a west wind of about 9/10 knots, rounded the Li Galli rocks in the early afternoon of Saturday reaching the finish line of Capri at 7 pm.

Freccia Rossa by Vadim Yakimento (YC Ancona) is first in the overall ORC ranking and  wins the Senatore Andrea Matarazzo Cup; the very fast TP52 preceded Atalanta II by Carlo Puri Negri and EndlessGame (RYCC Savoia) by the Neapolitan Pietro Moschini.

The cheerful, spectacular Price-giving ceremony in the “Piazzetta” of Capri, crowded with tourists and sailors, concluded the Rolex Capri Sailing Week 2018, which saw more than a thousand sailors and 121 boats involved.
